The Administrative Law Judge has reviewed the Minnesota teacher licensing board, PELSB, public hearing and released his report on the proposed teacher licensing standards.
Judge Mortenson approved all but three of the contentious proposed teacher licensing standards. His ruling made only cosmetic changes to the proposed standards and essentially approved the cultural Marxist structure which will transform teaching in Minnesota.
Judge Mortenson’s ruling now sends the proposed standards back to the Teacher Licensing Board which must either correct the three unapproved standards below or remove them from the rule draft. If they are removed, the remainder of the standards become state law. If they are “corrected,” the corrected version will again go before the Judge.
There are no published opportunities for additional public input. Once these standards become state law, teachers seeking to attain a teaching license in Minnesota will be subject to the new rule requirements. These requirements extend to public, private, and charter schools, Head Start, ECFE and all other areas which require a Minnesota teaching license. At this point, PELSB claims it does not apply to teacher licensing renewals. However, it will eventually apply to license renewals because state law still ties teacher renewals to teacher licensing standards.
Standards which were not approved:
Standard 4-F :The teacher features, highlights, and uses resources written and developed by traditionally marginalized voices that offer diverse perspectives on race, culture, language, gender, sexual identity, ability, religion, nationality, migrant/refugee status, socioeconomic status, housing status, and other identities traditionally silenced or omitted from curriculum.
Standard 5-H:The teacher encourages critical thinking about culture and race and includes missing narratives to dominant culture in the curriculum.
Standard 7-D:The teacher identifies gaps where the current curriculum does not address multiple perspectives, cultures, and backgrounds.
Objectionable standards which were approved (words are bolded for emphasis):
Standard 2-D: The teacher fosters an environment that ensures student identities such as race/ethnicity, national origin, language, sex and gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic class, and religious beliefs are historically and socially contextualized, affirmed, and incorporated into a learning environment where students are empowered to learn and contribute as their whole selves
Standard 4-H: The teacher creates opportunities for students to learn about power, privilege, intersectionality, and systemic oppression in the context of various communities and empowers learners to be agents of social change to promote equity.
Standard 6-C: The teacher understands the historical foundations of education in Minnesota, including laws, policies, and practices, that have and continue to create inequitable opportunities, experiences, and outcomes for learners, especially for Indigenous students and students historically denied access, underserved, or underrepresented on the basis of race, class, gender, sexual orientation, language, socioeconomic status, or country of origin.
Standard 6-F: The teacher asseses how their biases, perceptions, and academic training may affect their teaching pratice and perpetuate oppressive systems and utlitizes tools to mitigate their own behavior to disrupt oppressive systems.
Standard 7-E: The teacher recognizes the responsibility to question normative school knowledge, conventional teaching and other professional practices, and beliefs and assumptions about diverse students, their families, and communities that adversely impact learning.
Standard 8-C: The teacher understands how ethnocentrism, eurocentrism, and white supremacy undermine pedagogical equity.
Standard 8-G: The teacher understands the impact of the intersection of race and ethnicity with other forms of difference, including class, gender, sexuality, religion, national origin, immigration status, language, ability, and age.
Many of you, our readers, were among those who weighed in heavily against the proposed Marxist-based Minnesota teacher licensing standards. Because of that unprecedented resistance, and the possibility of a new administration ready to challenge them head on, the judicial review chose to wait out the election.
The results of the November 8th mid-term election left the Minnesota political structure in place. As CPL reported in our election review, there are unanswered ‘anomalies’ which indicate the election results did not reflect the will of the majority of Minnesota voters. The legitimacy of this Minnesota government is in serious question and one reason we do not believe these ‘winners’ represent “the consent of the governed.”
These standards are not embraced nor representative of the people. They are not what families want for their children or their future. They are being forced upon us.
It is incumbent upon us all to stand against them. Here are some thoughts:
1. Understand the educational indoctrination being passed off as an ‘education’ in our schools and find ways to tell others about it. Do not be silenced.
2. Understand how Minnesota elections are managed. Support those working to investigate and expose fraud. Speak up about what you learn. Do not be silenced.
3. Get engaged with your local government. Support parent-supportive school board members in your district by showing up at the meetings to hear, encourage, and speak.
4. If possible, remove your children from the public schools and support nonpublic education.
5. Find ways to teach and share the truth about America’s founding principles of freedom to the next generation and in the public square.
Our nation’s founding documents are and have been an inspiration to countries around the globe. They hear about the Declaration of Independence which voices the radical “self-evident” truths that we are “created equal,” that we are “endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness; that to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…”
Even today, the people of China and Brazil are rising up against the tyranny of their oppression with the words of our founders on their lips. We are not facing tanks; can we have the courage to find ways to resist too?
