MN GOV SEEKS TO CONTROL YOUR SCHOOL BOARD

This has not yet been voted on as far as I know, but it sure looks like we are being locked out of local school decision making. We see it first hand in many Districts as School Supts run roughshod over Conservative Elected School Board Members. Read below and decide for your self. Also see who the new  American Library Association President is, Emily Drabinski. In the HF 3782 they want this person to help with curation vs the local boards of library materials. She’s a great choice as long as you respect MARXIST LESBIANS :

Sec. 2.
[134.51] BOOK BANNING PROHIBITED.
Subdivision 1.
Access to materials.

The governing body, including a school board, of
a regional public library system under section 134.20, subdivision 2; a multicounty, multitype
library system under section 134.351, subdivision 4; a combination library under section
134.195, subdivision 7; a school library under section 124D.991; a library in a school
receiving school library aid; or any other public library under section 134.001, subdivision
2, may not ban, remove, or otherwise restrict access to a book or other material based on
the viewpoint, content, message, idea, or opinion conveyed.

Subd. 2.
Qualified librarian.

(a) The book and material collection decisions of a library
referenced in subdivision 1 must be made or overseen by:

(1) a licensed library media specialist under Minnesota Rules, part 8710.4550;

(2) an individual with a master’s degree in library sciences or library and information
sciences; or

(3) a professional librarian or a person trained in library collection management in
accordance with the policies under the American Library Association’s Library Bill of
Rights.

(b) Collection management decisions must be made in accordance with the American
Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights.

Subd. 3.
Collection management.

A governing body under subdivision 1, or any other
public body with personnel authority for a library, may not discriminate against or discipline
a librarian or other professional overseeing a library collection under subdivision 2 based
solely on their collection management decisions.

Subd. 4.
Library content.

This section does not limit any authority of a librarian or
other professional overseeing a library collection under subdivision 2 authority to decline
to purchase, lend, shelve, or to remove or restrict access to books or other materials as part of regular collection development practice.

Subd. 5.
Other law.

Nothing in this section impairs or limits the rights of a parent,
guardian, or adult student to request a content challenge under section 120B.20.
