LIBERTY LOST
The passage of the “Respect for Marriage Act” (RFMA) requires us to understand that not only has the institution of marriage been altered, perhaps irreversibly, but also that faith-based entities and Christian-owned businesses will now be at grave risk for continual harassment and endless lawsuits solely because of their religious beliefs.
Now that this bill will become federal law, it behooves us to dissect the beast that is the RFMA. While we cannot change what has happened, it is vital to prepare for what is to come.
Democrat lawmakers, panicked by the reversal of Roe v. Wade, created the false narrative that same-sex and interracial marriages would subsequently be threatened. They shrewdly took advantage of public uncertainty in the wake of the Roe decision, and encouraged manufactured rage from the left after the Supreme Court smashed the idol they had clung to for half a century.
Doing what they do best, fearmongering, Democrats claimed that Obergefell would soon be next on the Court’s chopping block. The RFMA was quickly crafted to achieve the left’s plan to shove the progressive agenda down the throats of every American citizen, regardless of their personal beliefs. This far-reaching legislation effectively deputizes activist groups to sue religious individuals, organizations and businesses that operate according to the belief that marriage is between one man and one woman.
Once signed by the president, the RFMA will subject Christian believers, businesses, and organizations such as faith-based adoption and foster care agencies to costly lawsuits, with the intention to permanently drive them from the marketplace and from Main Street, merely for practicing their faith.
The state redefines marriage at its own peril, because it defines away that which was and is responsible for its own existence; and those responsible for the forced transformation of this fundamental, pre-political, essential institution are certainly not on the right side of history.
But the truth is still the truth. Government is the custodian of marriage, not the creator or arbiter of the institution. The biblical and historical understanding of marriage serves as the foundation for the state, and the state cannot long exist without strong and stable families.
Passing the RFMA is shortsighted, arrogant, and foolish, and the inevitable consequences of this law will be revealed soon enough, as it wreaks havoc on our most fundamental societal pillars – biblical marriage and religious freedom.
As our liberties become more restricted, CRI will remain at the forefront to offer practical ways to stand firm and to uphold godly principles in our homes, our communities, and in our nation. Now more than ever, we must proclaim truth so it does not fade into oblivion.

This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ Jer 6:16
