‍‍In 2023 the Minnesota Legislature removed the exemption for religious freedom from the MN Human Rights Act (MHRA) which means faith-based organizations, non-profits, and schools, etc. are in violation if they discriminate by refusing to hire someone because of their “gender identity” or in “sexually harassing” them. The state or individual can sue organizations who employ only people with shared worldviews and beliefs about biological sex or for sexual harassment, which is currently being interpreted as creating a “hostile or intimidating” environment by not affirming a person’s sexual identity .

3)  Landmark Lawsuit Protecting Farmer’s Rights

On April 16, UMLC teamed up as local counsel with the Liberty Justice Center and Pacific Legal Foundation to launch a groundbreaking lawsuit challenging a federal law that infringes on farmers’ property rights without offering compensation. Known as “Swampbuster,” this law mandates that farmers leave designated wetlands on their property untouched to qualify for USDA benefits. However, failure to comply could result in the loss of vital benefits for every property associated with the farmer, and some of the targeted ‘wetlands’ haven’t been wet for decades.
